EFT is my favorite technique to use to help people experience emotional freedom by relieving stress and clearing past emotional conflicts. It is based on the principles of acupuncture and psychology and has been around since the late 1990’s. It actually has its roots in Thought Field Therapy, developed by Dr. Roger Callahan, a psychologist from California. One of Dr. Callahan’s students, Gary Craig, simplified the process and called it EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). It has been called “acupressure for the emotions” and is classified under the umbrella of energy psychology. While energy psychology is still a controversial area within the mental health field, there is increasing evidence that such techniques are valuable tools that can be used as self-help as well as in a clinical setting. It is becoming more widespread and gaining more acceptance among medical professionals, universities, athletes, business professionals, etc.
Some of the areas we use EFT for are:
- test anxiety
- physical pain
- sports performance
The aspect I like best about EFT and why it has become my favorite tool is that it is so easy to learn and can be done anywhere, anytime with no special equipment or instruction once it has been learned. Many believe that “EFT is destined to be a top healing tool for the 21st century.”
